What is Pediatric Speech Therapy?
Communication is vital to a child’s ability to express themselves, engage with others, develop relationships, and be a part of their community.
Our pediatric speech therapists help kids improve in all areas of communication. Communication encompasses not only the child’s ability to express their wants and needs, but also to understand the wants and needs of others. Through evaluation, our pediatric speech therapists will determine how best to help your child by assisting with the improvement of their verbal and non-verbal language skills. Speech therapists also address feeding and swallowing concerns. Our STs can help if your child: • Does not babble like other babies • Does not have any words or says only a few words • Is not using gestures such as pointing or reaching to communicate • Is difficult to understand even by familiar people • Gets frustrated when unable to communicate wants/needs • Does not put words together to make sentences • Has trouble with early reading skills • Struggles to say sounds or words (stuttering) • Has a raspy or hoarse voice • Is a picky eater or has trouble swallowing • Has a hearing impairment, with or without hearing aids or cochlear implants Our STs have advanced training in: • Apraxia • DIR Floortime • Dysphagia • Vital Stim/DINES • Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) |
What is Pediatric physical Therapy?
Pediatric physical therapists help make everyday activities easier for kids.
Our pediatric physical therapists help kids improve their range of motion, strength, flexibility and movement patterns. Their goal? To help children move their bodies how and when they want to the best of their abilities. Our PTs can help if your child: • Is not meeting their developmental milestones such as rolling, crawling, walking. • Has a preference for one side such as turning their head or rolling over only to one side. • Walks on tip-toes, trips over feet or walks in an atypical/awkward manner. • Appears clumsy, frequently falls or walks into objects, or not aware of their surroundings. • Has difficulty throwing, hopping, skipping, or doing jumping jacks. • Gets tired easily or avoids running, playgrounds, climbing, swings, or can’t keep up with their friends. • Appears to have weak muscles, slouches or tires easily • Has had a recent injury or surgery • Complains of pain in feet, legs, hips, back Our PTs have advanced training in: • Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) • Advanced Gait • Total Motion Therapy (TMTs) • Torticollis/Plagiocephaly |
What is Pediatric Occupational Therapy?
A child’s “occupation” is to play, participate in school, and be independent with self-care activities. Using play as a guide, our pediatric occupational therapists work with children who have or are at risk of having developmental delays and/or who are having difficulties functioning in one or more areas of their lives. Pediatric occupation therapists help children be successful in their everyday activities.
Our OTs can help if your child: • Has trouble with fine motor skills such as picking up small things, buttoning, opening packages, etc. • Has trouble with visual motor skills such as working puzzles or cutting with scissors • Takes a long time to write or has handwriting that is difficult to read • Is either under or over sensitive to sensory information • Has a hard time with transitions, breaks in routine or regulating their behavior • Appears clumsy or uncoordinated when compared to their peers • Needs more help than other kids their age with daily activities of living, such as eating, dressing or bathing • Appears to have weak muscles, slouches or tires easily • Has trouble with executive functions kills such as paying attention, completing tasks or understanding different points of view • Is not interested in toys or does not enjoy playing with other children • Is a picky eater or has difficulty using utensils or eating on their own Our OTs have advanced training in: • SOS Approach to Feeding • Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) • Sensory Processing Treatment • Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT) • Vital Stim/DINES |
